HOLLOW SUN out now
The New Album from Matt Cory | October 16, 2026
On October 16, 2026, award-winning Manitoba rock artist Matt Cory releases Hollow Sun, his debut full-length album and most ambitious musical statement to date.
Blending the crushing intensity of alternative metal and grunge with atmospheric textures, powerful melodies and emotionally driven songwriting, Hollow Sun represents the evolution of an artist determined to carve out his own identity in Canadian rock music.
Influenced by the raw power of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Filter and Ozzy Osbourne, Cory brings those influences into a sound that is distinctly his own. Built around massive guitar riffs, memorable hooks and a balance of aggression and vulnerability, the album explores the darker corners of the human experience.
At its core, Hollow Sun is about surviving the things that change us. Loss, isolation, frustration, uncertainty and the determination to keep moving forward are woven throughout its musical landscape. Itβs a record that embraces the darkness without surrendering to it.
Following previous releases Ghost Rising (2023) and Letβs Go Downtown! (2024), Hollow Sun marks a defining step forward in Coryβs songwriting and artistic vision. The albumβs release follows recognition from Manitoba Music, which selected his single βDoomsday Clockβ as Song of the Week.
For Cory, Hollow Sun is more than a collection of songs. Itβs the culmination of years spent developing his sound, navigating the challenges of independent music and refusing to abandon his ambitions.
This isnβt simply the completion of one musical chapter. Itβs the beginning of the next.

A Fierce Start Under Perfect Skies: Matt Cory at Living Skies Music Festival
Matt Cory and his band made their first-ever appearance in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, when they took the stage at Living Skies Music Festival on Saturday, August 15. The weather could not have been better, and with clear skies overhead and a full day of music ahead, the band brought the fierce energy and intensity needed to kick the festival into high gear.
The set opened with βHollow Sun,β the epic title track from Mattβs upcoming album. Heavy, atmospheric and built for the live stage, the song immediately set the tone for everything that followed. Mattβs most-streamed track, βLast Dance,β came next, keeping the momentum high and giving the Yorkton crowd an early taste of the new albumβs range.
Much of the performance showcased material from Hollow Sun, including βDoomsday Clock,β βSpark in the Skyβ and βDie on This Hill.β Together with the opening two songs, the new material made up the heart of the set and offered a strong preview of the sound, energy and emotion behind the upcoming record.
The band also put its own stamp on a pair of rock classics. Neil Youngβs βCinnamon Girlβ was given a heavier, revamped treatment, while Pearl Jamβs βEven Flowβ became an extended live jam. The performance gave every member room to stretch out, including a standout bass solo from Kevin Blair.
Alongside the new songs and reworked covers were several familiar tracks from Mattβs catalogue. βRunaway (Canβt Hear a Thing)β brought one of his recent singles back to the stage, while the rowdy, drunken anthem βAnother Day in Paradise,β from the Letβs Go Downtown! EP, added a loose and celebratory moment to the set.
With Matt Cory leading the charge on vocals and guitar, he was joined by Wes Lipischak on guitar, Kevin Blair on bass and Craig Metruk on drums. The chemistry between the four musicians gave the performance its edge, balancing tightly arranged songs with the raw, unpredictable energy of a live rock show.
The band ended the afternoon with βLit Up and Out of Line,β Mattβs first single and the song that originally helped put him on the map within Manitobaβs music scene. It was a fitting conclusion: a look back at where the journey began after a set that pointed confidently toward what comes next.
From the beautiful weather to the festival atmosphere and the warm reception from the crowd, the bandβs first trip to Yorkton was an unforgettable way to begin the weekend. Matt Cory and the band would like to thank the organizers, staff, technicians, fellow artists and everyone who came out early to help kick off the festival. They hope to see Yorkton again very soon.
Review: Matt Cory Kicks Off Rockinβ the Fields with a High-Energy Performance
Matt Cory and his band wasted no time setting the tone for Rockinβ the Fields of Minnedosa on Friday, July 31, opening the festival with two energetic half-hour sets that immediately got the crowd engaged.
The first set showcased several of Coryβs original songs, highlighting material from his upcoming album Hollow Sun. Standout performances included his most-streamed Spotify track, βLast Dance,β the defiant rock anthem βDie on This Hill,β and a fitting finale with The Trewsβ Canadian classic βNot Ready to Go.β The mix of original material and a crowd-favourite cover proved to be the perfect way to launch the weekend.
Returning later for their second set, the band raised the energy even higher. The set featured fan favourites from Coryβs catalogue, including the party anthem βAnother Day in Paradiseβ and βLit Up and Out of Lineβ from his debut EP Ghost Rising. The band was locked in from start to finish, delivering a tight, confident performance.
Frontman Matt Cory was impossible to ignore, commanding the stage with soaring guitar solos, nonstop movement, and the confidence of a seasoned performer. Whether shredding through solos or sprinting from one side of the stage to the other, he owned every moment.
The band closed their performance with a powerful rendition of Pearl Jamβs βEven Flow,β featuring an impressive bass solo from Kevin Blair that brought the set to an exciting finish. Guitarist Wes Lipischak and drummer Craig Metruk rounded out the lineup, providing the rock-solid musicianship that helped make the performance such a strong opening statement.
If the opening day was any indication, Matt Cory and his band didnβt just kick off Rockinβ the Fieldsβthey set the standard for the weekend.
Manitoba Music Selects βDoomsday Clockβ as Song of the Week
Brandon, Manitoba rock artist Matt Cory continues to build momentum ahead of the release of his upcoming album Hollow Sun, with his latest single βDoomsday Clockβ being selected as Manitoba Musicβs Song of the Week.
Featured across Manitoba Musicβs social media platforms, the organization highlighted Coryβs newest release while showcasing an exciting stretch of performances that has seen the award-winning rocker share festival lineups with legendary Canadian acts including Helix, Headpins, Quiet Riot, Big Sugar, Crash Test Dummies, and Econoline Crush.
Released on July 17, Doomsday Clock offers fans a heavier glimpse into Hollow Sun. Blending crushing riffs, industrial textures and soaring melodies, the song explores a dystopian future where artificial intelligence threatens to replace human creativity. Inspired by the aggressive sounds of late-β90s industrial rock while staying true to Coryβs signature songwriting style, the track has quickly become one of the standout songs from the forthcoming album.
βItβs incredibly exciting to have Manitoba Music recognize Doomsday Clock as Song of the Week,β says Cory. βAs an independent artist, support like this means a lot, especially while introducing listeners to what Hollow Sun is all about.β
The recognition comes during a busy summer for Cory, who recently opened Rockinβ the Fields of Minnedosa with two high-energy performances before heading west for Living Skies Music Festival in Saskatchewan.
With more singles still to come and Hollow Sun slated for release this fall, Doomsday Clock marks another milestone in what continues to be a breakout chapter for the Brandon-based rock artist.
