After a long road of writing, recording, refining and slowly releasing songs into the world, Matt Cory will officially celebrate the release of his new album, Hollow Sun, with a special album release showcase on Friday, October 16 at The 40.

Over the past several months, Cory has been steadily introducing listeners to the world of Hollow Sun through a series of singles, each offering a different glimpse into the album’s sound. Blending alternative rock, grunge, hard rock and a healthy dose of classic guitar-driven attitude, Hollow Sun represents one of the most ambitious chapters of Cory’s music so far.

The album was very much a collaborative effort. Craig Metruk handles drums throughout the record, Ian Morriceprovides bass, Dane Neufeld adds his guitar work, and Wes Lipischak helped Cory work through a number of the arrangements along the way. Together, they helped bring the songs from their earliest stages into the finished record.

Rather than simply releasing the album online, Cory wanted October 16 to feel like a proper celebration of everything that went into making it.

Joining Matt Cory and his band for the night will be Winnipeg’s The Castagnes and Brandon’s Left of Centre, bringing together three Manitoba rock acts for a night built around loud guitars, original music and the kind of live show Hollow Sun was made for.

For Cory, the showcase marks the end of a long process—but also the beginning of the next chapter.

After months of releasing the album piece by piece, October 16 is finally the night Hollow Sun gets unleashed in full.
